It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten above even five likes on my Poetry that I write. I write because it’s therapeutic after experiencing some of the things I have experienced. It’s encouraging to see that like button pop up and it makes me feel understood and not alone.
I’ve been feeling quite alone and incompetent as a writer due to the lack of interest or support of my feelings I express in what I write. So I think I’ll take this blog and just do whatever the hell I want to with it since no one cares what I write.
So I thought I’d share and elaborate on an article I read in the New York Times digital subscription I have. I promise to try and express how apt my conclusions about this excerpt are in regards to my poetry.
You see I do not seek a thousand likes when I write something. No no no. Fame is not my goal. Understanding, support and encouragement are my aim.
I don’t seek a swooning crowd of females commenting how wonderful or bad my poetry is. Unlike what seems to be everyone’s favorite President on this platform, I don’t believe sexual assault and rape are condoned by women from men who are “self-professed” stars.
In this excerpt from the New York Times dated today entitled, “In Rape Trial Deposition, Trump Says Vulgar Tape Simply Reflects Truth,” I want to talk about how a really fucked up individual thinks.
The title of the article says it all. What Trump is alluding to is that women are drawn to powerful rich men and will basically let them do whatever they want to to them.
I know logical people obviously don’t think this way but what is even more inconceivable is that this man, or whatever the hell he is, can be so damn evil and twisted.
He may proudly boast about not drinking or smoking a cigarette and how that’s admirable, but apparently rape is acceptable and just a fact of life when done by a person of status. Think about that for a moment. It’s a special message for older men and children alike that if you make it big in the world you can do whatever you want to anyone.
This Authoritarian concept does not surprise me. Donald Trump has openly mocked a handicapped reporter, disparaged soldiers wounded or captured in battle, defrauded the Federal Government in a tax scheme he called ‘smart’ and mocked a Gold Star family.
Trump has tried to silence his detractors in firing two FBI Directors and admonish the Justice Department as corrupt and against him. In my opinion when you cozy up to world leaders like Vladimir Putin, I would certainly hope the Justice Department would be against him. Because Putin is nothing more than a murderous killer of innocent children and civilians in a war that will have no victors.
If Trump is your man and you think he cares about how you feel, then you need to stop reading my blog. Because he doesn’t care how you feel. He never has and never will. I on the other hand do care how you feel and if I’ve offended anyone by my poetry I apologize.
But apparently Trump’s poll numbers have gone up. Which brings me to my next point. Are we as a human race drawn to audacious crude concepts and indecent toxic topics more so than others? Is shock our entertainment fix? Is it more important to us than having actual values?
I would hope not. But millions upon millions voted for a man who wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire. A man who held beauty pageants where he would just openly walk into the women’s dressing rooms.
In some ways I’m writing this as a warning. Never have I seen an individual as dangerous as Donald Trump. His lies influenced a news network to support him which cost them a cool $800 million dollar settlement. Yet they still support him.
It’s baffling and sometimes I struggle to understand the allure of someone who believes sexual assault is a right that stars have while in the same breath saying women have no right to decide what to do with unplanned pregnancies due to either misfortune from unprotected consensual sex with consenting adults or sexual predators.
So you tell me. What kind of things would you like me to write for you? Just forget about me for a moment and think about what you want. What do you want to read? What do you want from this little neck of the woods?
I’m all ears. Because I want to understand. I want to understand what exactly is the purpose of us as a society? To be complicit and show signs of support for a rapist or for those hurting in the depths of their souls?
